Hello,

Actually I should thank you for starting this activity. Well, there are many bloodbank and other means of getting the blood. But different people different approaches, so having one more way of serving people is obviously an advantage. Hope you will keep up the good work and add more value to the site in coming future. I would be glad to help, if needed, for some noble cause.

To,
The Editor,Punecity.com.

Dear Sir/ Madam,
I am a regular visitor to your web site & would like to congratulate you for providing such usefull information about the city, on your web site.
In keeping with your effort, I would like to make a few suggestions.
I have browsed through all the pics. put up at this site & suggest that in addition to the existing lot,we would like to see pics. of popular places( common 'Puneri' hangouts) like Vaishali/Roopali, Marzorin,Prems, etc.
This is merely a suggestion on behalf of all those Pooneites who virtually lived at these joints!
I hope my suggestion is taken in good regard & we can soon look forward to seeing some of these pics.

This is regarding Master Pravin Raut. I am interested in making a small donation from my side.
Could you pls. send me more information on where we can send the money, is there any charity fund opened to which I can write the cheque?
Pls. let me know so that I can act accordingly.
You can email me at prabhuneas@yahoo.com

Thanks,

Dear Mr. Prabhune,
We are touched by your response to the appeal for helping Master Pradeep Raut.
As the cost of having a charitable trust would have defeated the purpose of gathering funds, the same has not been formed.
Pradeep Raut's father is an employee of Telco in Pune. We can arrange to send him your donation if routed through us. Otherwise you could make out a cheque directly in his name which could be mailed either to us or to Mr. Raut directly. Can you inform us about where you are based so as to set up an appropriate mode for the donation.
Thank you once again for caring to help.

Hi,
I am a frequent visitor to this site because it brings good memories of good ole "Apla Pune" however it is not possible for me to login everyday. I prefer to check the Archives once in a week and get the weekly info.
The archives are there and easy to retrieve but would it not be nice that I can click on a link of a date rather than keep on entering the DAY, MONTH and YEAR everytime I check a new day...even if I am just checking the past week.
I think the search facility for archives is good, but in addition to that if you could have LINKS for the past week or past month will be a great convenience to intermittent users of this site. I think I am referring to the archives page design prior to this date search system.
But hey, keep up the good work. :)

Hi,

I was going through your travel section, regarding rail travel from Bombay to Pune, and you mentioned that there is a separate window for foriegners, and you should book atleast 10 hrs in advance.

I was just wondering as to whether foriegners are charged the same price (ie say Rs 196/- for AC on the Deccan Queen/Pragati) or they are charged more since they are foriegners.

I noticed this when i went to the Taj Mahal and the Agra fort, that Indians are charged 20 bucks as an entrance fee, and foriegners are charged around 960 bucks.

The reason for my asking this question is that i've been born and brought up in India (i'm of Indian origin), and look every bit the Indian as you, but i'm a British Citizen. When i went to Agra i was charged the price for Indians because no one can tell by looking at me that i'm not. I would greatly appreciate it if you could let me know if the government practices what they do in Agra, and blatantly robs foriegn tourists, or charges them the same as Indians.

Thanks,
Arshad Khan.

Every alternate year I hear about this IT study trip of Pune mayor to San Jose. I am really sceptical about these trips and believe it is just tax payers money wasted. Has the municipalty come up with any reports of what developments were done in last such trips ? Is there a need for politicians to go on such a trip ? I know many pune based software companies, whose technocrats keep visiting US and other nations and they sure justify the trip money in terms of client relations and business growth. Is any such output visible in Mayor's team visits? Public should demand the output of such trips.

(Yes, Nitin and Gauri. We share your sentiments. That is the reason why we have kept the link alive for such a long time. As soon as we came to know about the girl, we requested journalist friends to carry a news story. They did help us and all leading Marathi and English dailies of Pune carried the story.
We kept our contact with the orphanage for a long time to find out if the girl's parents approached the authorities. Some readers wrote to us saying that they were prepared to adopt the girl or provide her a shelter in Pune till the parents are traced. The orphanage said they couldn't help because of some legal matters.

The editor,
Sir, it is always a pleasure to visit the web site 'punecity'
Sometimes one can't help but comment on the issues published. Like the "bank holidays" as published on 31st. March, the article states that 1st. April, Monday is a bank holiday, sir monday is the 2nd. Of april. Also it's time that we in india move with the times as far as "holidays" are concerned.
Indians are know to take holidays on any excuse (all indians overseas do not follow this trait, by & large) if we are moving forward & demand to be equal to the progressive (one has serious doubts, as far as this 'word' goes) world, we need to be progressive in relation to "holidays" too.
Sir, it was nice to know that the police commissioner shri k k kashyap (quite a long tenure in pune, must be a excellent crime fighter)has opened a "one window system" for the benefit of both the police force & the citizens to have a better relationship. It's all very fine, how about some transparency in the working of the police force, please.

In your punescape "Aum Namah Shivay" of February 22/2001 you refer to Mahadev as "Lord" Mahadev. What is wrong with "Shree" Mahadev except that it is very appropriate and so very Hindu.

Following is a comment sent to Mantra-on-net who fell into the same trap.
"Can we please not move away from using the language of alien religions?

Most detested words used by the Hindus are:
  1. Hymns
  2. Service (=prayer meeting)
  3. Lord (=shree).
Next will be Lady Parvati, presumably?
Please get real. Get real Hindu. The oldest religion in the world does not need this kind of insulting aping of other religions.

Please accept my appreciation for noting Indian events in your History section and not, for example, the birth date of the Fifth illegitimate son of Queen Elizabeth--the info of no interest to Indians. You could have at least noted Shivaji's birth anniversary a few days before the event as a reminder to the readers. And then reported on its celebration and the controversy about the date.

Regards.
Geerish

(Many thanks, Geerish. Point noted, but the history section is meant to carry past event on the same day. Anyway, we will try to evolve some mechanism to remind readers about the upcoming event.

Particularily the music is what draws me closer. I would be so grateful should you make available more mp3s of a devotional kind. Furthermore, as I sought to find news and content about the artistic life of Pune, that I so much enjoyed, I find myself abashed. I was fortunate enough to listen to the music of Ustad Sayyad-ud-din Dagar and would be extremely grateful should you put me through him somehow. Subject: Road Accidents - SAFETY FIRST

Hi,
I read the news of death of Bhakti Barve in a road accident on Mumbai-Pune Xpressway. It is a very sad moment. But I think we need to turn back and look whether we can avoid such deadly accidents on our roads. I think media should take our administration for a ride if our roads are not according to international safety standards.
Recently, we have thousands of people dead in earthquake because of not following safe building standards. Our roads are another death traps which take lives of hundreds / thousands in a year. In one of the articles on Punecity I had read that on this expressway the lanes are not marked yet. How can they open it to traffic if the work is not complete yet ? We have to ask these questions so that tomorrow it should not you or me who is facing such an accident. These are some of things which can definitely be avoided if we take up safety as our first priority.

Narendra Sabnis.

The earthquake in India has shaken up everyone. Here is a prayer, one thinks, should be published.
'Lord grant me the patience, to bear thy will, and the courage to accept it!'

Dear Punecity,
This is a wonderful experience for me, a puneite, who used to travel to Mumbai by road every week and suffer the misery of the journey that could last from 4 hours to 9 hours.
Bravo on your efforts!
What is the schedule for the entire expressway to be up and running?
Thanks, Kiran

Subject: Mumbai - Pune Expressway

I was very thrilled when I first went on the operational expressway . It is just like the motorway I use in the UK. Unfortunately, that's where the similarity ended.
The main hurdle is now how to educate the users of this expressway. I was shocked to see the vehicles straddle lanes and have no idea how to overtake and how to use the indicators. At such high speeds it is almost certain death.. surely we do not want it to be an expressway of death. The only way to avoid this is education.
The expressway can be thought of as a tool, now the users manual needs to be published and advertised and the tool should strictly be used as instructed..
The expressway committee has done a wonderful job of building this magnificient infrastructure. The ghat sections are a marvel of engineering which I havent seen anywhere in UK or Europe. Congratulations to the team and wish then all the best in completing this prestigious project.
A hopeful but concerned Puneite.

(It was an exciting experience to watch on your site video clips of Mumbai-Pune-Expressway and Sawai Gandharva. We read the write up on Expressway. It is definitely a major improvement, although there is scope to introduce more safety measures. Even then, whatever is being made available is not a mean achievement. We only hope that the fate of the Expressway will not get stuck up in politics.
The speed of video stream was not smooth. Pictures were visible as broken images. This, in spite of the T1 internet connection I have here.
We appreciate your efforts to offer webcasts of various events in Pune. If we, staying abroad, get to see events in Pune.. what else do we need?
Best Luck,

Yours
Ashish Jadhav)

Hi,
This is just wonderful clip!
Thanks for it! We could imagine the wonderful experience.

I read about this so called attack on pakgov.org . It is very esay to take people for a joy ride in this cyber world. Beofre putting this news you should have verified all the facts. This is NOT the web site of Pakistan goverment. Some person has created a web site which has this name and the same person is trying to creat an impression that this is the offical website and it is hacked. If you search for the Pakistin goverment offical web site on yahoo.com you will come up with a diffrent name.

Thanks
Rajesh

(Dear Rajesh,
Many thanks.

What you are saying is true. Pakistan government's official web site is: http://www.pak.gov.pk/ and not www.pakgov.org as the self-styled hacker gleefully claims.

Indian media have probably become willing victims of the prank tried by this gentleman. Most Indian newspapers used the hacking story, along with a picture of the so-called hacked home page. But, yes, we should have cross-checked and should not now argue that we only followed what others in the media did.

We now realise that the site(www.pakgov.org) seems to be registered to one Mr. Musharff Parveez, karaci (note the spelling), which is obviously incorrect, and is a childish attempt to mislead the people.

We believe that it can't be a real hack. And we hope we are right this time.

Dear Sir

I am a Punery , currently working in Syracuse (New-york State) I was very thrilled to see this site. This site gives me news about happening in Pune every day. I do not feel I m out of Pune by accessing this site. I Have made it as my Home Page.

One thing I notice everyday is that there is a mismatch in the picture in "Pune scape" and the text attached to it . It so happens that there is 1 day lag in the text. The Picture attached is Today's and the Text attached is of the Yesterdays picture.

Also ..can we have some Video Reports..like the Timesofindia.com has ?

It would better if we could SEE pune also on the net. !!!

Keep up the good work. Once again- Well done Punecity.com

Thanks and Regards
Sourabh Galgali

(Hello Sourabh,

Many thanks for your message. It was certainly a moral booster! The problem about the Punescape picture seems to be related to your browser cache. Please clear the "Temporary internet files" folder on your machine and retry loading the page. You can do this through the Tools/internet options menu in the internet explorer, or by clearing the cache folder of netscape.

My guess is that the earlier days picture is displayed from the cache, where as it retrieves the latest text from the website.

We have been working on the video feed. Actually you can check out the Video of the "Sawai Gandharva Sangeet Mahotsav" through the link on the home page. Please watch it, send your comments and spread the word around.

Also you would soon be able to see a lot of video content related to events & happenings, in and around Pune.

Thanks again,-- Editor)

Hi punecity.com
As a Puneite now residing abroad, it is a pleasure visiting punecity.com. The new look is good, but the earlier Ganapati Pooja was much better and more 'authentic' in a way. We would love more news about Pune and environs, never mind how ordinary it is. It makes us feel nice to read about familiar landmarks or people.

By the way, why no link to the 'chintoo' site? No doubt it's in Marathi but we enjoy it a lot and we are sure other Puneites will feel like us.

The editor,
Dear Sir,

The article, "50 glorious years of Alaka cinema", in the "In Focus" section Was very good. It took me back to my college days, as I have Spent some of my most cherished moments at the Alaka cinema.

Sir, I think that there is an error in the article.

The second calamity, as mentioned, was in the year 1961 and not 1951.

Please note that the article mentions the first calamity occurred in 1958.

So it does not make sense to mention that the second was in 1951.

Thanks,
Suresh Shivdasani

Dear Mr.Dev Nadkarni,
Regarding the death of Pu La, I don't think any condolences are enough for loss of such a well loved person. When I left india he was the one through his books and cassettes who kept me company and when ever I felt home sick I would either read his stories or listen to the cassettes and I would feel that I was back in India. All we can do is to pray to our GOD to look after him in His Swarga.

Dear Sir
I liked seeing the photos of the pune-mumbai expressway. Now that we have an expressway, we need to quickly get the car manufacturers to install seat belts for all passengers in cars. In the road safety videos shown in the US, even on city roads travelling at 40mph, seat belts can save lives. Should some one get the courts to order this or wait for the government to enact such legislation?

PS: I am looking forward to travelling on this expressway and will be visiting pune next month.

Hi,
I am a regular visitor of punecity.com. The new look of the site is very nice. It virtually brings you closer to the city. Just one suggestion, there're thousand other sites where we can get the national/world news, but not local. So it'll be great if you can provide some more local news along with the photographs. Also it'll good to have archives of all Face/Photos of the DAY in the past and new articles like some cartoon strip.
Thank you
